Maquiladoras

Located on the international boundary between Mexico and the United States, Mission is the perfect location to take advantage of the international market and the opportunities created through the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Mission offers the location, international crossings and infrastructure necessary to compete in today's global market. The Maquiladora industry, otherwise known as twin-plants, take advantage of the low cost of labor in Mexico and the quality distribution and a high level of expertise on the U.S. side of the border.

Mission is less than three miles from the border with easy access into Mexico. The City of Reynosa, a major manufacturing location for many maquilas is across the river, less than fifteen minutes away. Monterrey - Mexico's largest industrial center, is less than two hours away with excellent access with a new toll road super-highway.

There are currently two international crossings that serve the Mission metropolitan area. The Hidalgo International crossing is less than fifteen minutes from the Mission Expressway Business Park and the Sharyland Business Park. Both Industrial Parks are excellent locations for suppliers of the Maquiladora industry and are filled with various amenities and incentives for re-location and/or expansion.

The Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge is less than 30 minutes away. A third international crossing, located in Mission, Anzalduas International Bridge, is nearing completion. This bridge is scheduled to open in 2009 and is less than 3 miles from the Mission Expressway Business Park.
